Lee University School of Music presents Chorale in its spring concert on Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Church Street Annex (formerly First Baptist Church).

Dr. William R. Green, dean of the School of Music, will conduct this 40-voice select ensemble in an exciting program including the music of Dominick Argento, Palestrina, Duruflé, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, and dynamic American composer Eric William Barnum.

The program will include a selection of sacred pieces as expressions of God’s greatness and provision including “Holy Radiant Light” by Sergi Rachmaninoff and the exuberant “Gloria” by American composer Dominick Argento. Also included will be a setting of “Ubi caritas” by French composer Maurice Duruflé.

A highlight of the program will be the presentation of Bach Cantata 140 “Wachet auf.” This work, one of Bach’s best known pieces, is based on the Lutheran chorale by the same name which remains popular today. This presentation will be performed with chamber orchestra and soloists Chery Brendel, James Frost, and Brett Hyberger. The concert will finish with “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” from Brahms’ German Requiem.

Chorale serves the School of Music as the premier ensemble for standard choral music. The group has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall and has traveled as a part of the “Celebration of American Music” in Italy.

While traveling, the ensemble was privileged to perform in many of Italy’s great cathedrals including performances at the Vatican and St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice. This past summer they participated in a choral residency at major cathedrals in Ireland including St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Waterford Cathedral.
