Lee University Chorale will present its fall concert, “Music is Better Together,” on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall, under the direction of Dr. William Green, dean of the School of Music.  

“The concept is that music is something that we should enjoy together and that we collaborate with other artists in making great music,” said Dr. Green. “The Chorale will be joined by several faculty members and students as soloists and performers. Chorale alumni are invited to join us on stage for the traditional singing of René Clausen’s ‘Prayer.’ It will be a diverse and enjoyable evening of music.” 

The performance will feature selections including “Drei geistliche Lieder” by Felix Mendelssohn, “You are the Music” by Dan Forrest, and “Fantasia for Choir and Marimba” by Jan Moeyaert, among others.  

Graduate student Erik Broom will conduct Chorale along with Green, and faculty pianist Amy Wu will be the accompanist for the performance. The concert will also feature Lee faculty Dr. Andrea Dismukes, mezzo-soprano; Dr. Andy Harnsberger, percussion; Dr. Brian Reichenbach, trumpet; Dr. Doug Warner, trombone; and Dr. Vanessa Wei, piano. 

In addition to serving as School of Music dean and director of Lee University Chorale, Green teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting. He is also active nationally and internationally as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician.  

Dismukes, a professor of voice at Lee, has made numerous appearances in opera, oratorio, chamber music, and traditional solo recital venues.  

Harnsberger serves as a professor of percussion at Lee and is a celebrated recitalist and clinician across the country and internationally.  

Reichenbach serves as an assistant professor of trumpet, leads the trumpet studio, teaches courses in music theory, and coaches chamber music. Prior to Lee, he was a freelance musician for 20 years, performing with numerous ensembles and orchestras and appearing regularly as a guest soloist, clinician, and adjudicator. 

In addition to serving as the director for applied music and professor of trombone, Warner was principal trombonist of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera from 1985 – 2023. 

Wei, assistant professor of piano, teaches courses such as applied piano, collaborative piano, and chamber music. She has also collaborated with many great musicians including Lynn Harrell, Ian Hobson, Peter Lloyd, and Joel Smirnoff.  

The Lee University Chorale is an ensemble of highly motivated vocalists selected by audition. An emphasis is placed on the diversity and breadth of advanced, artistic choral literature. Chorale has been featured in performances with the Chattanooga Symphony, at Carnegie Hall, and most recently in Italy and Austria as an invited guest for the 2022 Advent Festival in Vienna.      

The performance is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. The concert will also be available for livestream viewing at leeu.live.
