Chorale and Ladies of Lee to Perform Tuesday
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Lee University Chorale and Ladies of Lee will perform a combined concert at 7:30 p.m. in the University’s new concert hall, Pangle Hall, located in Lee’s Church Street Annex.
The evening’s program will begin with sacred music from a variety of traditions, including standards in the a cappella choral repertoire, shape-note tradition, the gospel tradition, and arrangements of hymns old and new.
Ladies of Lee will be performing works by Felix Mendelssohn and Norwegian composer Frode Fjellheim, as well as more recent works by gospel musician Stephen Hurd and modern hymn writer/worship leader Bob Kauflin. One piece, “Eatnemen Vuelie,” was featured in the hit-movie Frozen.
Chorale’s program will include works by Eric Whitacre, John Rutter, and Canadian composer Stephen Chapman, and will close with the rousing “Neighbor’s Chorus” from Offenbach’s comic opera La jolie parfumeuse.
To close the concert, the two ensembles will combine to perform “Carol to Beauty,” an arrangement by James Mullholland of a familiar French melody. This performance will also feature a student brass quintet.
Lee University’s women’s ensemble Ladies of Lee is directed by Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, assistant professor of music at Lee. The group has performed throughout the United States and ministered through music in Europe and Israel.
The Lee University Chorale is directed by School of Music Dean Dr. William R. Green. Chorale has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall and has performed throughout Europe. They will also be singing in Austria this December with concerts in the Salzburg Cathedral, Melk Abbey, and Vienna City Hall.
The concert is a free, non-ticketed event.
