Choral Union to Present “The Place of Rest”

Events, Music, News

Lee University Choral Union will present its mid-winter concert, “The Place of Rest,” on Monday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus. The event will also be livestreamed for those who want to attend virtually.

The program will feature the music of Romantic composers Alexander Gretchaninov and Johannes Brahms, along with contemporary American composers Elaine Hagenberg and Sean Kirchner, as well as others.

“The theme of the concert is one of rest,” said Josh Golden, director of Choral Union. “There are spirituals, folksongs, hymns, sacred, and secular works which all focus on a place of rest, whether that be our eternal rest at the end of a Christian life or a place of quiet and rest here and now during the tumult of the world around us.”

Lee University Choral Union is a unique blend of Lee music and non-music majors and is open to all who are interested in choral music. The group performs choral music and major masterworks for mixed chorus and orchestra, including works such as Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” Handel’s “Messiah,” Honegger’s “King David,” and Poulenc’s “Gloria.”

Along with directing Choral Union, Golden teaches conducting courses at Lee. He has a wide variety of experience and backgr ound in the field of music, including directing and founding Vox Valens, a professional male ensemble; directing the Chattanooga Girls Choir; and performing as a soloist and conductor in Voci Virili, The Chattanooga Bach Choir, and Opera Tennessee. Golden is also the director of music ministries at Hixson United Methodist Church in Hixson, Tennessee.

The concert is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating, tickets are required and can be reserved at www.showclix.com. For livestream viewing, visit https://leeu.live.
