Chamber Strings to Present Tangos and Waltzes
Lee University will host Chamber Strings, an all-string student ensemble under the direction of Xiaoqing Yu, on Tuesday Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall for its fall concert.
The concert theme is “Tangos and Waltzes” and promises “an evening of exciting and elegant music,” said Yu, associate professor of violin at Lee.
The program will include a variety of pieces featuring the most popular tangos, waltzes, polkas, and marches: El Tango de Roxanne, Libertango, Tango Pizzicato, Tango Olympic, Oblivion, Kraftig, and Cachucha from well-known composers such as Piazzolla, Strauss, and Lanner, among others.
“This is truly an enchanted evening of beautiful music at its best, enjoying how Europeans and South Americans celebrate holidays,” said Yu. “We hope everyone will join us for an evening of gorgeous and exotic music.”

Chamber Strings is a dynamic ensemble composed of the institution’s finest violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists providing innovative programming for venues on and off campus.
“The ensemble has so much enthusiasm to present an energetic and brilliant performance,” said Yu. “It gives such a different culture to the community, adding just the right amount of the unique fabric to Lee’s campus.”
Yu joined Lee’s School of Music in 2004 with worldwide performance experience, and continues to serve as concertmaster of Greenville Symphony as well as teaching. He earned degrees from University of South Carolina, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music in China.
The concert is free of charge and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow the concert in the lobby of the Communication Arts Building.
