The Lee University Chamber Strings, an all-string student ensemble from Lee’s School of Music, will present its fall concert on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The concert will feature guest conductor Jianming Qian, a professor from Nanjing, China, in addition to Tony Deaton and James Frost, two of Lee’s critically-acclaimed music faculty.

The evening’s program will highlight the differences and similarities of well-known pieces from the East and the West, including music from Italy, Norway, America, and China.

The Western selections will include Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Donizetti’s “Romanza,” Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” Grieg’s “Holberg Suite,” John Williams’ “War Horse,” and Leo Belibes’ “Cake Walk.”

Eastern music selections, all classic Chinese music known to the Western world, will be “White Haired Girl,” “Emancipation,” and “Moon Reflected on Chinese Springs.”

“Everyone is in for an evening of total amusement!” said Xiaoqing Yu, director of the ensemble and associate professor of music at Lee. “Chamber Strings continues to perform entertaining music for all to enjoy.”

The event is open to the public and free of charge. All are welcome to attend a reception immediately following the concert.
