Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to Open String Theory

News

Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art are proud to announce that this season of String Theory will open with the Chamber Music Society (CMS) of Lincoln Center.

String Theory is a collaborative project of Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, bringing the highest quality chamber music to the area and presenting it in an intimate, artistic setting. The project was launched in 2009 by internationally acclaimed pianist and Lee faculty member Gloria Chien.

CMS is regarded as the nation’s premiere repertory company for chamber music. Artistic Director Wu Han returns with three talented young musicians for this concert, to be held Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. An Artful Connections session will take place before the concert at 5:30. At this time the Hunter chief curator, Ellen Simak, and Maestro Bob Bernhardt, artist in residence at Lee University, will explore connections between music and visual art.

For the concert, Han (piano), Yura Lee (violin), Richard O’Neill (viola), and Jacob Koranyi (cello) will perform the CMS On Tour “Four by Four” program featuring the Haydn Piano Trio in A major, Francaix’s String Trio, and Dvorak’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major.

During their stay, CMS will also offer a free lecture and demonstration for senior citizens in coordination with the Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors and the Senior Arts Council of Chattanooga.

The CMS performance with String Theory is funded, in part, by grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission and South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
