Dustin Cawood, assistant professor of communication at Lee University, was recently nominated for a Golden Reel Award through the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE).

Cawood was nominated for the award in the category of “Best Sound Editing: Sound Effects, Foley, Dialogue and ADR Animation in a Feature Film.” He earned the nomination for his work as a sound effect editor on Disney-Pixar’s 2013 “Monster’s University.”

In 2011, Cawood won a Golden Reel Award for his work on “Wall-E.” Cawood has also been nominated for five other Golden Reel Awards for his work as a sound effect editor on “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” “Toy Story 3,” “Super 8,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” and “Cars 2.”

Cawood joined Lee’s Department of Communication Arts in fall 2013. Prior to Lee, Cawood spent 10 years in California working in the film and television industry at Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios. His credits as sound effect editor/designer include such productions as “Lincoln,” “Star Trek,” “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.” He also served as sound designer on “Chasing Ice.”

Cawood is a native of Cleveland, Tenn. He earned his MFA from Florida State University and his BA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Founded in 1953, the MPSE is an organization dedicated to improving the recognition of its members by educating the public and the rest of the filmmaking community as to the artistic merit of sound editing.

Award winners, selected by a panel of film and sound professionals, will be announced at the 61st Golden Reel Awards on Feb. 16 in Los Angeles, Calif.
