Campus Choir Sings at Arlington National Cemetery
On Easter Sunday, the Lee University Campus Choir sang as featured guests during the Annual Easter Sunrise Service at Arlington National Cemetery’s amphitheater in Arlington, Virginia, hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
“After months of many phone calls, emails, texts, and teleconferences, we were honored to get to be a part of this beautiful event,” said Dr. Luke Gambill, director of Campus Choir. “Words truly cannot express the emotions of watching the sun rise all around us in that historical amphitheater, lifting our voices in praise and adoration to our Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ!”
Campus Choir was the first choir outside of the army band to be invited to sing at this special event. The invitation was extended by Scott Ingram, the chaplain at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and a Campus Choir alum. The choir was also joined by singers from the Samoan congregation that meets at a sister chapel on post.
“Singing in the nation’s capital was a surreal experience,” said Mason Tabor, president of Campus Choir. “It was an honor to sing in such a solemn location as Arlington, and it was encouraging to meet the godly chaplains in our military. It helped me to realize that the Church is very much alive and active in America.”
Campus Choir also sang in a combined Protestant/Gospel Easter Worship Service in the chapel at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
The 70-plus-member ensemble is known for international ministry, but for some decades, it has also held a heart for the United States, going back to an era with Dr. David Horton, a previous Campus Choir director. According to Gambill, through this event, he believes the choir was both fulfilling and walking in its calling and legacy to be an encourager to this country with the gospel of Jesus Christ through the ministry of song.
“Our call to action was to be authentic worshippers and to sing with passionate hearts for our risen Lord,” said Gambill. “These students pushed through long days and cold mornings and helped make it a momentous day for the ministry of the Lee University Campus Choir. I could not be more proud of them.”
