Buck Premieres “The Odd Fellow”
Lee University associate professor of theatre Dan Buck has recently written an audience-interactive one-man show titled “The Odd Fellow,” which will have its world premiere at Broad Street United Methodist Church during the weekends of Feb 4-5 and 11-12 at 7 p.m.
“The Odd Fellow” is an autobiographical show in which Buck examines his strange hobby of sending people on elaborate treasure hunts. The performance will include some wild stories about real life treasure hunts Buck has created, and then, at about the halfway mark, a guest will arrive who is in the middle of one of these treasure hunts. They show up believing they are coming to a meeting of a secret organization, and the audience gets to play the part of that organization.
“The Odd Fellow is a genuine effort to understand my very strange hobby,” said Buck. “Why do I do this? What do I get out of it? I’m hoping talking to audiences about it will produce some answers.”
Buck, who will both act in and direct the show, adds that the play is about “finding wonder in the ordinary.”
Buck joined the Lee Theatre faculty in 2010. He directs roughly half of the theatre program’s productions and teaches classes in directing, acting, theatre appreciation, and history. He has directed, acted in, or written 70 productions, and worked professionally in the Chattanooga region. He is also an experienced improviser with nearly 200 improv performances to his credit.
“The Odd Fellow” is produced by Tiger Leap Productions, a division of The Alderman Group. Tiger Leap has produced podcasts “CURIO w/ Dan Buck,” “Project SSA,” and a live production of John Logan’s “Red.”
