Lessons and Carols, 2024

Lee University’s School of Theology & Ministry and School of Music will present Lessons and Carols on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in The Lee University Chapel. This annual event is an interactive service that unites biblical lessons with Christmas music.

“Lessons and Carols is a tradition adapted from England that focuses attention on Scripture reading and carols associated with the Advent of Christ and Christmas,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of the School of Theology & Ministry. “The result is at the end of one hour the story of redemption is portrayed through song and Scripture.”

Faculty from the School of Theology & Ministry will read nine lessons from the Old and New Testaments that traditionally tell the fall of humanity, the promise of salvation, and the birth of Jesus. Each reading will be followed by a related carol or musical selection performed by Lee University Chorale, directed by Dr. Cameron Weatherford. Guests will also be invited to join in singing Christmas hymns.

“Lessons and Carols is always a sacred time of worship and reflection – a fitting addition to this season,” said Dr. Randy Sheeks, dean of Lee’s School of Music. “The word of God, beautiful music, and the architecture of Lee’s chapel combine for a wonderful night.”

The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
