Alumnus Shin Lim Wins Season 13 of America's Got Talent

Alumni, News

Lee University alumnus, Liang-Shun Lim, widely known by his stage name Shin Lim, was named the winner of America’s Got Talent (AGT) 13th season on Sept. 19. As winner, Lim was awarded $1 million and a featured act in Las Vegas.

A self-proclaimed “sleight of hand artist,” Lim admits that he is actually not a magician, nor a wizard, and has no intention of lying to the audience. He performs carefully self-choreographed routines rather than pretending to defy the laws of physics.

While at Lee, Lim was a double major in piano and telecommunications and was a member of the Choral Union ensemble.

Lim became interested in magic at a young age and taught himself by watching “how-to” magic videos on YouTube. As he grew as a magician, Lim made the distinction that he wanted his shows to be something artistic to watch and not just about tricking people. He looks to change the attitude on card magic and, unlike most magicians, even has videos explaining his technique.

Prior to AGT, Lim’s appearance on the show “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” went viral on YouTube, collecting over 50 million views. Aside from television, Lim has toured across China as a solo artist and with the Broadway-style magic show, “The Illusionists.”
