Alumni, News

Since 1960 Lee University has formally recognized the achievements of outstanding Lee alumni through the Alumnus of the Year award. Beginning in 1994 the University also established the Honorary Alumnus of the Year award. This second distinction is given to individuals who did not attend Lee but have made an outstanding contribution to their profession, their community, and to the University. Each year these awards are presented at the President’s Circle luncheon during the Homecoming weekend.

Beginning in 2011 the University asked alumni from around the world to nominate worthy candidates for both awards. “We were pleasantly surprised by the number, variety, and quality of nominations received,” said Mitzi Mew, Director of the Alumni Office. “The process brought to our attention many remarkable alumni we would have otherwise overlooked.” According to Mew, last year’s “experiment” was so successful the University plans to make it a permanent part of the selection process.

If you know a Lee alumnus who is deserving of this recognition please nominate them using the link below. Mew explained that successful nominees for the Alumnus of the Year will have been a Lee University graduate for at least five years; achieved outstanding accomplishments in his/her profession; displayed significant leadership to his/her community; consistently represented the values and mission of Lee University; and demonstrated continuing interest in and support of Lee University through contribution of time, talent or resources.
