The Lee University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger and Dr. Caitlin Jones, will host its fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

“This is a very diverse program, featuring pieces that are ‘easy to listen to’ as well as works that are extremely demanding,” said Harnsberger, professor of percussion. “This program has something for everyone – from the catchy, melodic writing of Trevino to the monumental percussive style of Xenakis. The audience is sure to be entertained from beginning to end.”

The performance will include “Watercolor Sun,” “Van Gogh from Space,” “Mallet Trio,” “Three Scenes From the Desert,” and “Okho.” “Mallet Trio” was written by Elijah Caligiuri, a Lee master of music student.

The Percussion Ensemble performs a wide variety of music written expressly for percussion, which allows students to experience a variety of music including contemporary genres, world music, and improvisation. Selections range from chamber works for three to four performers to works utilizing many instruments. The group presents fall and spring concerts annually.

Along with conducting percussion ensemble, Harnsberger is in demand as a recitalist and clinician across the country and internationally, presenting clinics and masterclasses at as many as 40 universities per year. He is also a performing artist and clinician for Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.

Jones is an American percussionist who has performed across the United States as a marimba soloist and as a member of the Harnsberger/Jones Duo. She is a proponent for the advancement of solo and duo marimba repertoire and focuses on bringing new music to a variety of audiences. Jones has presented at Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion and throughout the U.S. on various topics, including health and wellness for musicians.

This event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will also be available at leeu.live. Pangle Hall is located on the corner of Church Street and Central Avenue.
