The Systems Administrator works as part of a team that is responsible for the University’s datacenter.  The Systems Administrator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and performance of all enterprise systems and servers including Email, VoIP, user accounts, information security, cloud managed systems, and on premises server hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage day-to-day operations including: system monitoring, configuration, maintenance and repair; maintain system inventory and documentation; apply system patches and firmware updates; user account maintenance; work with outside vendors to achieve operational goals.
  • Research, design, recommend, and implement new technologies and/or systems that support institutional or departmental goals.
  • Perform troubleshooting as required to solve technical issues.
  • Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of operations systems, disk arrays, network appliances and other components.
  • Ensure high availability and performance expectations of critical enterprise systems.
  • Develop and document current back-up and restoration procedures for all servers, systems, and network appliances.
  • Develop procedures to maintain security from unauthorized use and/or access, acts of nature, or abuse.
  • Manage and maintain the Data Center including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning, power supply, and fire protection systems.
  • Stay current with industry trends in systems administration.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATONS

The ability to plan, organize, document, and configure complex operating systems in accordance to Lee University policies/procedures is required.  Verbal and written communication skills are essential to succeeding in this position.  The Systems Administrator must be efficient at multi-tasking and responding to emergency situations effectively.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

An Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience in Information Systems is required and a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.  The Systems Administrator must possess a working knowledge of complex operating systems, enterprise storage arrays, enterprise back and recovery procedures, current equipment and technologies, and system performance monitoring techniques and tools.  Experience with VMWare Hypervisors, Microsoft Azure and Office365 management, and Active Directory is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment includes computer related noise and noise levels, paper and equipment generated dust.  Systems Administrators will be required to provide support during off hours in the event of system outages and participate in an on call rotation.  Monthly scheduled night and weekend work is required.  Some lifting is required, physical agility is necessary for the accomplishment of this job.
