European Humanities for Health Professionals

Experience the contemporary culture of England while exploring the art, history, music, science, theatre, and Christian culture that formed the humanities in the western European tradition and shaped the western worldview for two thousand years. As you explore England, you will also pay special attention to issues and topics related to the History of the Protestant Reformation, the nature of British healthcare system, the history and contemporary practice of nursing, and the history of science and disease. The trip will begin in northern England and conclude in London. A few highlights include visits to world-class museums, taking afternoon tea at the Harewood House, hiking in the Yorkshire Dales, attending church services, visiting C.S. Lewis sites in Oxford, taking in Agatha Christie’s Mousetrap in London, and enjoying an evening concert in Trafalgar Square’s St Martin’s in the Field.
The trip occurs during Summer Session 2 in the month of June with classes meeting in-person on campus for two weeks, followed by two weeks of travel in England. Classes in 2024 are tentatively scheduled for June 3-13 with travel dates from June 14-28.
