The English Language Center (ELC) is a program run through Lee University’s TESOL program which allows people from the Cleveland, Tennessee community (normally immigrants or refugees) to learn English for free. Every Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., these people come to learn English from Lee University TESOL majors and minors. Lee University’s own students are the teachers and leaders in this program. There are 5 levels of English classes taught at the ELC, from True Beginner to Advanced, as well as a Young Adult and Children's Program. Once you include people from these three areas, the ELC has over 160 people coming through its doors every week! For more information, please see the contact information below.
Lee University’s TESOL program is unique in that it is one of the few undergraduate programs in the nation which allows its undergraduate students to teach English Language Learners (ELLs). The English Language Center is an excellent opportunity for TESOL majors and minors to gain real-world teaching experience before entering the field. While teaching at the ELC, TESOL majors/minors take a class labeled “English Language Seminar” in which they are taught how to manage the classroom, plan lessons, and implement the pedagogical principles which they have learned in previous courses. This program is aimed towards students who have a heart to teach others in a practical and effective way. If you have any questions about classes or the program, please see the contact information below.
Whether you have recently moved to the United States or have lived here for a long time, the English Language Center is the place for you. We offer five different levels of classes to suit your individual language needs: True Beginner, Beginner 1, Beginner 2, Intermediate, and Advanced. All classes at the English Language Center are free. Come ready to learn English. See below for information on the times, dates, and location of the English Language Center.
