Fall Convocation to Begin Sunday
Sunday, Sept. 3, kicks off Lee University’s fall convocation series, a special time where the entire university comes together to worship, reflect, and dedicate the rest of the semester to the Lord.
This semester’s Convocation theme is “Dwell,” based on Ephesians 3:17-19. Each service will welcome a different speaker, beginning with Lee President Dr. Mark Walker on Sunday and concluding with missionary and author Mike Atkins on Wednesday evening.
“As the Lee community focuses on inviting Christ to dwell in our hearts, my prayer is that the actions of our daily lives will be impacted by this week of spiritual formation,” said Dr. Brad Moffett, vice president for University Relations. “I believe we will all be inspired and challenged by the messages offered by our speakers, and that we will look back on this week and know that we have met with God.”

Walker, along with his wife Udella, accepted the challenge to lead Lee in the spring of 2020. He assumed the role of President at Lee on August 1, 2020, carrying with him into the role a wealth of executive leadership experience, primarily in a ministerial setting. No stranger to the academy, he completed degrees at Georgia State University and Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and served as adjunct faculty at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and for seven years as a member of Lee’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Maurice (Mo) Huggins Jr. will speak at the Monday evening service. Huggins committed his life to Christ at a young age and has been serving in ministry for the last 13 years in various roles, such as student pastor, teaching pastor, and associate pastor. He currently serves as the lead pastor at Mountain West Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Huggins holds a Doctor of Ministry in biblical preaching, a master’s degree in homiletics, and a bachelor’s degree in pastoral leadership. He is married to Tiana Huggins and has three sons, Maurice III, Maverick, and Myles.
On Tuesday morning, chapel services will feature two Lee ensembles. Lee Singers will perform in the Conn Center, and Evangelistic Singers will sing in the Dixon Center.

Laurel Bunker will bring the Word for the Tuesday evening service. For over 30 years, Bunker has been a leader in fields of non-profit management, higher education, and church and parachurch ministry. Her mission is to impact the lives of men and women through empowered teaching, training, mentoring, and leadership development that builds character and advances organizational change. Bunker has held key positions in national organizations including Young Life, the YMCA, the Jeremiah Program, PULSE, and the Council on Christian Colleges and Universities. She spent 14 years as a campus pastor and university administrator, until 2021, when she left to pursue and launch The Boncouer Collaborative, a hub of mentorship, vision casting, preaching, and teaching.

Convocation will conclude Wednesday night with Atkins, who has traveled widely sharing the gospel over the past 40 years. His call to proclaim God’s Word has taken him to Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, China, Europe, Great Britain, India, Korea, the Middle East, and Scandinavia. Serving in pastoral ministry for over 30 years, he has also traveled extensively as a guest lecturer with “Youth with a Mission” and has authored three books, his latest being “The Life of Christ in the Heart of Man.” His teachings focus on the hidden life in Christ, the centrality of the Cross, the call to Spirit-filled living, and the “Blessed to be a Blessing” principle of global outreach.
Weeknight Convocation services begin at 7:30. Each service will open with worship and praise songs led by LeeU Worship.
Lee encourages all students and guests to come out and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For those wishing to view online, services will be available for livestream viewing at leeu.live and on Facebook. Livestream viewing will also be available to students in the Dixon Center for the Monday and Tuesday evening services.
