Lee University held its summer graduation ceremonies Saturday with Lane College President Dr. Logan Hampton delivering the commencement address.

“Today is a day of thanksgiving,” said Hampton, reminding graduates and guests that “we are all here today because of God’s help, and we celebrate a good God who is working on your behalf…to do exceedingly more than you could imagine.”

He encouraged the graduates that they are now equipped and empowered to make a difference because they have “learned to learn, the greatest tool you leave with today.” Hampton then turned to their future endeavors, encouraging them to “lead with love” and “laugh with life.”

Hampton has served as the President of Lane College, a Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church affiliated institution and one of the oldest HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities), since 2014.

He received his doctorate of higher education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), a master’s degree in student personnel services from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arkansas Tech University. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Institute of Management and Leadership in Education.

Of the 164 degrees conferred on Saturday, four were associate’s degrees, 103 were bachelor’s degrees, and 57 were graduate degrees, including 10 doctorates. The summer event is one of three graduation weekends at the university each year, with the other two in May and December.

Saturday’s ceremony was preceded by the Commissioning Service on Friday night, which featured five student speakers sharing their experiences at Lee, and included Clifford Barron, Kendra Brooks, Dr. Angela Hayes, Malik Hill, and Deborah Rubin.
