Hampton to Deliver Summer Commencement Address
Dr. Logan Hampton will deliver the commencement address at Lee University’s summer ceremony on Saturday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Conn Center.
“We are honored to have Dr. Hampton as our summer commencement speaker,” said Dr. Mark Walker, president of Lee. Our graduates will benefit highly from his rich heritage of academic achievement and leadership along with his long-term Christian ministerial service. I’m excited Dr. Hampton will be with us on Lee’s campus.”
Hampton has served as the President of Lane College, a Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church affiliated institution and one of the oldest HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities), since 2014. He received his doctorate of higher education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), a master’s degree in student personnel services from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arkansas Tech University. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Institute of Management and Leadership in Education.
Before UALR, Hampton held positions at Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, and the University of Central Arkansas. In addition to working as a higher education administrator, Hampton is an ordained elder of the CME Church and served 24 years as a pastor in the Arkansas Region of the First Episcopal District.
Lee’s summer commencement is one of three graduation ceremonies held each year at the university. One hundred sixty-nine degrees are set to be conferred in the Saturday morning ceremony.
Prior to the Saturday commencement, a commissioning ceremony will be held Friday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m., also in the Conn Center. The commissioning service is a special occasion for students and their families to reflect on student experiences at the university. During the event, there will be five student speakers who will share brief stories about their time at Lee. Each graduate is presented with a personalized Bible in a traditional walk across the Conn Center stage.
A reception will follow the commissioning ceremony for all in attendance.
A hooding ceremony for recipients of master’s and education specialist degrees and doctoral graduates will take place Friday, July 28, at 4:30 p.m.
The Voices of Lee, directed by Danny Murray, will present the music at the commencement ceremony.
The hooding, commissioning, and commencement ceremonies are ticketed events. For those who wish to view the events online, live streaming will be available at leeu.live.
