Lee Opera to Present The Marriage of Figaro

News

Lee University Opera will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s comic masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro, for four performances on Feb. 23, 24, and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Dixon Center.

Composed in 1786, Mozart’s Figaro is one of the most-performed operas worldwide and considered one of the renowned composer’s greatest works. The musical narrative boasts a multifaceted love story of infatuation, jealously, and satire woven through the animated sounds of Mozart.

The opera is directed by Assistant Professor of Music James Frost and conducted by former graduate student Emily Harbin, with sets and lights designed by recent graduate Tyler Steele.

This four-act opera will be performed in English. All sets and costumes were created by the cast.

Many of the opera’s roles are double-casted to allow more students to participate in the performance. Chris Oglesby will perform the title role of Figaro, with Jacque Crum and Chelsea Davidson cast as Susanna. Tony Deaton, associate professor of voice, will be portraying the role of Count Almaviva.

Tickets may be reserved or purchased at the Dixon Center Box Office beginning Feb. 13 from 3-6 p.m. The box office is open Monday through Saturday and one hour before each performance.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students.
