Bright Star Children’s Theatre To Perform The Lady of Bullyburg at Lee

News

For the third consecutive year, the Tennessee Arts Commission
has granted Lee University the opportunity to support guest
performing artists such as the Bright Star Children’s Theatre. Lee
is proud to host their performance of “The Lady of Bullyburg” on
Sept. 20 and 21 in the Dixon Center.

Bright Star Children’s Theatre is a professional, national
touring children’s theatre company, based in Asheville, N.C.

“The Lady of Bullyburg” is designed for Pre-K-5 to give young
audiences the tools they need to effectively deal with bullying.
The show has garnered national attention since its debut in 2004
and has been seen by thousands of audiences who have credited this
anti-bullying fairy tale with changing the climate in their
schools.

The performances begin Thursday, Sept. 20 at 9:15 a.m. and 12:15
p.m. and Friday, Sept. 21, at 9:15 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Lee will also host Bright Star’s public performance of
Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on Thursday,
Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. This show is appropriate for grades
2-6.

Bright Star assures the “audience will especially love watching
several volunteers being pulled up to become members of the Sleepy
Hollow town choir.”

Celebrating its ninth season, the tour will make an invitational
performance at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. following
their show at Lee.

Lee’s opportunity to host such performers as Bright Star is due,
in part, to the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC), funded under an
agreement with the State of Tennessee.

Created in 1967, The TAC stimulates and encourages the
presentation of performing, visual and literary arts throughout the
state and encourages public interest in the cultural heritage of
Tennessee. The Commission has encouraged excellence in artistic
expression through the state’s artists and arts organizations. That
commitment has grown through the years to ensure that the citizens
of Tennessee have access to, and the opportunity to participate in,
the arts.

Tickets are available at the Dixon Center Box Office at
423-614-8343. Admission to “The Lady of Bullyburg” is $1 for
students; teachers and chaperones are free. Tickets for “The Legend
of Sleepy Hollow” are $5 per person.
