Brittany Kanerva, a junior accounting and mathematics major at Lee University, was recently selected to participate in the Disney College Program (DCP) for college students.

The DCP provides students the chance to spend time taking personal and career development courses, network with leaders, and build communication and teamwork skills.

One of the main components of the program is pushing participants to learn how to interact with the diverse array of people who work at and visit Disney World.

“I think the most important thing I learned was how to really interact with people. There is just such a wide range at Disney, from the multicultural cast members that I worked with to the variety of people who came to the parks,” shared Kanerva. “It was always interesting to talk to someone who had a different background than me.”

The program assigns participants to positions on the Disney front line so that they have the opportunity to see how a large company works from a behind the scenes point of view, all while meeting guests and maintaining the signature Disney magic.

Kanerva continued, “As Attractions Hostess with Hollywood Studios, I worked as a 1930s bellhop in the Tower of Terror where I was able to greet the guests while maintaining the iconic creepiness of the ride.”

The DCP is available to all college students who have completed one semester.
