School of Music to Host Honor Band

News

On Thursday, Nov. 14, high school students representing 23 schools across five states will attend Lee University to participate in Honor Band 2013. These 72 students will be under the baton of Dr. David Holsinger, a well-respected composer and conductor of the Lee University Wind Ensemble.

The band will begin rehearsing Thursday evening and continue through Saturday morning. The weekend will culminate with a concert given by the Honor Band on Saturday Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The program will feature selections such as “Bullets and Bayonets” by John Philip Sousa, “Four Dance Episodes” by Gary Gilmore, “Hero Music” and “Abrams Pursuit” by Holsinger, “Ammerland” by Jacob de Hann, and “March of the Belgium Paratroopers” by Pierre Lemans and Charles A. Wiley.

Selections for the honor band were made from information provided by the students on the Honor Band application as well as the recommendations from their individual directors. This is the 13th year for the Lee University Honor Band.

On Friday evening, Nov. 15, the Lee University Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble will perform for the Honor Band participants. This concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Conn Center.

The public is invited to attend both the Friday evening and the Saturday afternoon concerts. These are non-ticketed events.
