Dr. Shane Griffith, associate professor of business, has been selected as the winner of Lee University’s 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award.

The Excellence Awards are the highest honors presented to Lee faculty members and recognize advising, scholarship and teaching. The oldest award and considered to be superior among the three is Excellence in Teaching. The winner of this award is chosen by a special committee which includes representatives of six different academic departments.

“Dr. Griffith’s excellence in the classroom is only exceeded by his passion and care for students,” said Dr. DeWayne Thompson, chair of Lee’s business department. “One student said of Griffith, ‘He trusts us with difficult material.’ His deserved reputation for excellence stems from his ability to make difficult, quantitative concepts clear.”

A Lee alum, Griffith worked as an actuarial analyst for six years before returning to his alma mater in 2002 to teach. Griffith regularly teaches Management Science, International Financial Management, and Business Modeling. In 2009, he won Lee’s Excellence in Advising Award.

Griffith also serves as director for Lee’s Master of Business Administration program. In addition, he serves on the board of directors for a local non-profit organization and is a member of the institutional review board for a local hospital.

Griffith is married to Alison and they have two daughters, Lily and Ella Kate. He enjoys camping, fishing, hiking, and running.

Lee President Dr. Paul Conn recognized Griffith for this honor during spring commencement.
