Students to Lead Fort Hill Cemetery Tour

News

On Sunday, Oct. 25, Lee University and the Bradley County Historical and Genealogical Society will present the Ninth Annual Walking Tour of Historic Fort Hill Cemetery.

Tours, led by Lee University history majors and volunteers, will introduce the community to several fascinating Clevelanders and Bradley Countians from the 19th century buried in the historic section of Fort Hill. Students and local performers dressed in period costume will bring these early residents to life.

This year’s historical characters include Jonathan and Elizabeth Tipton, Gideon and Myra Waterhouse Thompson, Margaret Lea Henegar, James Donohoo, Meredith and Jane Cozby Legg, Mary Hightower Lea Harle, William and Abigail Grant, Nathaniel Grant, John and Jane Anderson Henninger, and John and Mary Tucker. This year’s guests will be greeted by Gideon and Grizzy Blackburn who, although not buried at Fort Hill, were early missionaries in the region.
