IMP Luncheon to be Held Oct. 20

Lee University’s Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics will host the Internship-Math Program (IMP) Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 12 p.m., in the Centenary Room, located in Lee’s Higginbotham Administration Building.
The purpose of the luncheon is to introduce business owners and corporations to Lee University’s internship program and the qualified students they can hire as interns. The luncheon will also allow Lee to identify what businesses are looking for in their employees and therefore better train and equip students for a career.
Through the internship program, the industry will have access to bright and energetic students and an opportunity to identify and help train potential employees while giving students an opportunity to serve in their field.
Speaking at the luncheon will be Mr. David Cawlfield, a principle engineer at Olin Corporation, who partnered with the IMP last year. Olin Corporation took advantage of the internship program and the unique experience it offers to both the student and the employer.
“We are happy to conduct the IMP Lunch again this year, particularly so with Mr. Cawlfield presenting Olin’s experience with our internship program,” said Dr. Caroline Maher-Boulis, IMP director and associate professor of mathematics. “Mr. Cawlfield’s experience at Olin, his knowledge, and his leadership skills are invaluable to our partnership. We appreciate him and Olin very much and know that his presentation will provide great input to other companies on how they can use a mathematics intern in their corporation.”
IMP strives to introduce math majors to real-life problem-solving scenarios, opportunities to develop workplace skills, awareness of non-academic career options, and experience with research.
Any business leaders or school officials interested in attending the free luncheon should contact Maher-Boulis before Oct. 13 at [email protected].
