Fall Convocation to Begin Sunday

Alumni, Campus Ministries, Chapel Services, News

Sunday, Sept. 11, kicks off Lee University’s fall convocation series, a special time where the entire university comes together to worship, reflect, and dedicate the rest of the semester to the Lord.

“For decades, Convocation has been a special week of spiritual focus and formation on Lee’s campus,” said Dr. Brad Moffett, vice president for University Relations. “The entire Campus Ministries team, Dr. Walker, and I are praying for the transforming power of the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of our students, faculty, and staff.  We have a great line-up of speakers this semester, and I look forward to hearing from each of them as they challenge our community to allow God to work in and through our lives.”

This semester’s Convocation theme is “Transformation.” Each service will have a different speaker, beginning with Lee President Dr. Mark Walker on Sunday and concluding with pastor and Lee alumus Jason Browning.

Dr. Mark Walker

Prior to being president, Walker served as the vice president for ministerial development and chair of the Department of Christian Ministries at Lee. He was also on Lee’s Board of Directors for seven years. Walker also served as the senior pastor of Mount Paran North Church of God and has been a frequent speaker at Lee’s Convocation in the past.

Laurel Bunker

Laurel Bunker will speak at the Monday evening service. For over 30 years, Bunker has been a leader in fields of non-profit management, higher education, and church and parachurch ministry. Her mission is to impact the lives of men and women through empowered teaching, training, mentoring, and leadership development that builds character and advances organizational change. Bunker has held key positions in national organizations including Young Life, the YMCA, the Jeremiah Program, PULSE, and the Council on Christian Colleges and Universities. She spent 14 years as a campus pastor and university administrator, until 2021, when she left to pursue and launch her LLC, The Boncouer Collaborative.

Rich Wilkerson Jr.

Lee alumus Rich Wilkerson Jr. will bring the Word for the Tuesday evening service. Wilkerson is a dynamic communicator with a passion to encourage and inspire this generation. He and his wife, DawnCheré, are the lead pastors of VOUS Church in Miami. VOUS Church is a catalyst of faith, creativity, and diversity that celebrates the unique culture of its vibrant city. He is also the author of “Sandcastle Kings: Meeting Jesus in a Spiritually Bankrupt World.” Wilkerson offers a peek inside his world with the docu-series, “Rich in Faith,” a 10-episode feature on the Oxygen Network.

Jason Browning

Convocation will conclude on Wednesday evening with Browning, who has been involved in church ministry for over 20 years and was the associate pastor at Westmore Church of God in Cleveland for several years. For the past four years, he has been the lead pastor of Metropolitan Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

Weeknight Convocation services begin at 7:30. Each service will open with worship and praise songs led by LeeU Worship.

Lee encourages all students and guests to come out and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For those wishing to view online, services will be available for livestream viewing at leeu.live and on Facebook.
