Lee University’s Amy Dummer has been named the recipient of the 2022 Janet Rahamut Award. This award is given in recognition to the faculty member that exhibits a heart for students evidenced by frequent interaction and positive involvement with them outside the classroom.

The award is named in memory of Dr. Janet Rahamut, a veteran English professor whose tragic death in 2000 shocked the campus and left a tremendous void in the collective heart of the Lee family. The award was created to honor Rahamut’s dedication to her students, in and out of the classroom.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Dummer, assistant professor of accounting at Lee. “It is my privilege to have the opportunity to spend time laughing with, praying with, mentoring, and learning from such amazing students.”

Dummer leads the career readiness workshops for Lee’s School of Business, helping students in areas of resume writing, interview tips, mock interviews, dressing for success, and social media dos and don’ts. She also attends every preview day to talk to prospective students and parents. She is involved in various campus activities, attending her students’ sports games and concerts, and is always available to talk to students, according to Dr. Dewayne Thompson, dean of the School of Business.

She also serves as the mentorship program coordinator, internship coordinator, and is on the Cleveland City School advisory board. Dummer earned a Master of Business Administration and her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Geneva College.

Dummer teaches all levels of accounting classes including Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, and Auditing. She enjoys using her professional connections to engage students in real-world projects, especially in the areas of auditing, advanced auditing, and financial statement analysis. She is a certified public accountant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where she worked for a regional firm as an audit manager. Prior to Lee, she taught at Grove City College and Geneva College.

“My wife and I knew Dr. Rahamut quite well,” said Thompson. “Amy is the kind of person that Janet would approve for the Janet Rahamut Award. She has a heart for students and is a positive force in the School of Business.”

Dummer was presented the award during a special chapel service in April.
