    Leigh Ann Coats, bringing with her twenty plus years in the field of music education, is the music teacher at Lee University’s Early Learning Center.  A collaborative program supported by both the ELC and the music education department, Leigh Ann works directly with the Lee music education majors as they observe and participate in her music classes gaining invaluable experience in early childhood music (birth through age 5).  Prior to living in Tennessee, Leigh Ann, for nine years in Quincy, IL, co-owned and co-directed a thriving early childhood music studio called Music Matters, which was recognized as a Musikgarten Exemplary Program.

    Before teaching early childhood music, Leigh Ann worked in a variety of music educational settings, especially in Texas.  Her experience included teaching elementary school music (K-6), and co-directing/co-accompanying a 4th-6th grade district girls’ choir.  Currently, she teaches private voice lessons and serves as a pianist/vocalist at her church. She received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

    Lee University is a special place for her family:  her husband, John, is a professor of history; their son graduated from Lee and is now attending law school; their daughter is currently a student at Lee.
