School of Music and School of Religion Present Lessons and Carols

Lessons and Carols 2018
Lessons and Carols, December 2018

Lee University’s School of Religion (SOR) and School of Music will present the ninth annual Lessons and Carols on Thursday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m. in the Lee Chapel. This service will unite biblical lessons relating to Christ’s birth with beautiful Christmas music.

“The faculty in the School of Religion always looks forward to the evening of Lessons and Carols,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of the SOR. “The nine Scripture readings provide a foundation around which Lee Chorale weaves its garlands of beautiful carols. It is one of my favorite events in the entire school calendar.”

Faculty from the SOR will read nine lessons from the Old and New Testaments that traditionally tell the fall of humanity, the promise of salvation, and the birth of Jesus. Each reading will be followed by a related carol or musical selection performed by Lee University’s Chorale, directed by Dr. William Green, dean of the School of Music. Guests will also be invited to join in singing Christmas hymns.

Dr. Matthew Krepps, professor of chemistry at Lee, will serve as the organist and begin the service with an organ voluntary at 7:10 p.m.

The event is free of charge, but tickets are required due to limited seating. Tickets are available at the Dixon Center Box Office at (423) 614-8343 weekdays from 3-6 p.m. or at the Lee Chapel one hour prior to the event.
