This 1999 fall
play marked the Lee University directorial debut
of Shane Fuller, the newest member of the drama
faculty. Capacity crowds came to see the
production in Dixon Center, a comedy set in a
rural Georgia fishing lodge where an Englishman
on vacation finds himself thrust into a world
full of intrigue, suspense – and a lot of
laughs.
The Englishman, Charlie, played by Luke Hubbard,
is deposited at the lodge by his friend Froggy
(Jamie Huff). His well-intentioned friend tells
Betty, the owner of the lodge (Heidi Peterson)
that Charlie speaks no English, and it not to be
disturbed. Charlie refuses to go along until he
overhears a personal conversation between the
mayor (Phillip Price) and his fiancée, Catherine
(Elizabeth Nelson). To keep the peace and avoid
confrontation Charlie pretends he didn’t
understand a word they said. As a result, Mayor
David has other colorful conversations in
Charlie’s presence, assuming he cannot. Charlie
finds out about the secret life of good ‘ole boy
Owen Musser (Joseph Martinez) and David’s plot
against Catherine’s slow brother Ellard, played
by Dav December. |
