“Flowers for Algernon”

Thursday, November 2 is the opening night for Daniel Keyes’ gripping narrative
of Flowers for Algernon directed by Dr. Sharon Carbaugh. This absorbing
performance portrays a retarded young man, Charlie Gordon, who becomes the first
human test-subject for an ambitious brain experiment. Throughout the story one
follows Charlie’s startling rise and decline of mental and emotional capacities,
inevitably ending in misfortune. Flowers for Algernon is such a beloved
classic that it has remained in print since 1959. Since then, it has received
science fiction's highest honors, the Hugo and Nebula Awards.
Regular performance dates are November 2, 3, and 4 at 7:30 pm and November 9,
10, and 11 at 7:00 pm. There will be no matinee. Doors will open 30 minutes
prior to show time. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and
$7 for senior citizens. Ticket sales begin Monday, October 23 at the Dixon
Center Box Office, corner of Church and llth, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday. All performances will be held in the Dixon Center Auditorium on
the Lee University campus in Cleveland, Tennessee. For more information on the
