History repeated
itself in the Spring 2001 semester when Lee
University presented its spring musical, You’re
a Good Man, Charlie Brown. In 1978, when
students of Lee University produced their first
Broadway-style musical directed by Dr. David
Horton, it was Charlie Brown, with James Johnson
in the role of the lovable round-headed kid who
can't succeed at baseball, football kicking or
kite flying. Twenty-three years later, Lee
University again presented You’re a Good Man,
Charlie Brown, this time casting Kirt Johnson as
Charlie, the son of the man who played him in
1978.
Dr. Sharon Carbaugh directed this successful
musical to capacity crowds. All ages
enjoyed the display of huge props--a couch made
out of a twin size mattress and a swing-set that
dwarfed the grown-ups. The program also
included a kaleidoscope of great familiar songs
such as, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,”
“Suppertime” and “Happiness.” |
