  • Confidentiality Statement

    The ethics codes of the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and federal and state law serve as the guidelines for the Counseling Center as we consider issues of confidentiality. All client appointments, personal information, and files are strictly confidential. Counseling records are NOT part of your student health or academic records and are restricted. Information cannot be shared with others without prior written consent, except: 1) to protect you or others from imminent harm, 2) to protect children, disabled or the elderly from abuse, 3) to the parents of minors under 18, and 4) by court order.

    Also, please note that staff members of the Counseling Center do not use e-mail to communicate confidential information. Further, we cannot guarantee that e-mail messages will be read regularly or within a given period of time. It is especially important to note this in case of an emergency situation. If you have a need to communicate about matters other than scheduling, please contact us either in-person (Counseling Center) or by phone (423-614-8415).

    Parent Information

    The Counseling Center welcomes information from parents on how we might be of service to your son or daughter. We will gladly discuss our services with you and provide information on how your son or daughter may utilize our services.

    However, according to federal and state law and the codes of ethics mentioned above, we can neither confirm nor deny that an individual has been seen here. Further we cannot discuss any information related to an individual without their prior written release to do so.
