In order to better guide our students, Lee's faculty and staff start by examining their own sense of calling. Through a variety of workshops, retreats and seminars, they study the theology of vocation and learn how to address the topic with their students. Programs for faculty and staff include the Faith Learning Institute, Faculty Mini-Grants, and academic department mini-grants.

Faith Learning Institute
|
| (12 faculty/administrative staff each year for 3 years) |
This professional development opportunity is the centerpiece of faculty/staff exploration of calling. As a foundational aspect of our project, the Institute's intention is to engage faculty in the issues of vocation and enable them to guide students in the exploration of calling. Dr. Terry Cross leads the participants in a discussion of his text,
Answering the Call in the Spirit: Pentecostal Reflections on a Theology of Vocation, Work, and Life. Participants are involved in a summer retreat and a fall and spring dialogue. Contact the Poiema Office if you are interested in participating.
Faculty Mini-Grant Program
|
(up to 15 faculty each year for 3 years)
|
Faculty mini-grants are available to support faculty as they write texts for the religion core curriculum and senior capstone courses. The Psychology capstone text,
Wait, There's More: Conversations About Psychology and Faith, serves as a model. Faculty will contribute chapters expressing their experiences of personal calling to the subject matter and the teaching profession. In doing so, the exploration of vocation will be both personal and curricular. $300 is available for each faculty member contributing to the text. The application for funding needs the endorsement of the department chair before it is submitted to the Poiema Office for approval. Application Guidelines available.
Missions Trips
Funded in the original grant, these short-term faculty-sponsored trips allowed participants to reflect on calling as it related to hands-on service. Missions Trips are no longer funded as part of the Poiema Project.
Academic Department Mini-Grants
|
(Six $500 awards each year)
|
Mini-grants are available to the academic departments to support guests and programs related to the theological exploration of vocation. Six $500 awards are available each year. The application for funding needs the endorsement of the department chair before it is submitted to the Poiema Office for approval. Application Guidelines available.
