Fall Convocation Begins Sunday(1)
Sunday, September 30, 2012
Lee University students, faculty, and staff will soon come together for fall Convocation, a concentration of six chapel services in four days. This time of spiritual reflection and renewal will begin on Sunday, Oct. 7, with a time of worship and a message from Lee president Dr. Paul Conn.
“I always look forward to Convocation Week each semester because it provides a time for the Lee community to really focus on God,” said Campus Pastor Dr. Jimmy Harper. “During Convocation, we set aside time and push some of the normal distractions out of the way so we can come face to face with a loving God. This is a very special week on the Lee University campus.”
On Monday evening, Lee welcomes back Josh Rice, Pastor of Community and Leadership Development at Mount Paran North Church of God in Marietta, Ga. Rice has served as a youth pastor, senior pastor, and church administrator. After graduating from Lee in 1999, he went on to receive his MDiv from Columbia Theological Seminary and a PhD in New Testament Studies from the Lutheran School of Theology.
Tom Madden will return to speak during the Tuesday evening service. An alumnus of Lee, Madden is a veteran youth minister and was one of the founders of the popular “Winterfest” annual youth festival. He is currently serving as the Church of God Administrative Bishop for the Delmarva-D.C. region, which includes Delaware, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the D.C. area.
Stan Lester, Lead Pastor at Crosspointe Christian Center in Dalton, Ga., will speak on Wednesday night. He has served in full-time ministry since graduating from Lee in 1986. While at Lee, Lester was a member of Alpha Gamma Chi. His vision is to see people’s lives transformed by the application of the truth of God’s Word.
The week’s all-music morning services will be led by campus ensembles. Campus Choir will lead on Tuesday, with Symphonic Band leading on Thursday.
Weeknight services begin at 7:30 p.m. and morning services at 10:40 a.m. in the Conn Center. Overflow will be provided in the Dixon Center for each service. These services will have live worship with Kingdom Players on Tuesday and Ladies of Lee on Thursday, followed by a video feed of the sermon.
Lee encourages all students and guests to come out and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For more information about this and other chapel events, contact the Campus Ministry office at (423) 614-8420.
