Essential Information
Festival Participants may be or any age of level of experience.
Contestants must meet the following criteria:
- High school graduation date that is no earlier than the spring of 2012.
- Qualified to enter the 9th grade in high school (or its equivalent) by September 2012.
- Previous college credit limited to dual enrollment, early admission, and the like.
Rules and procedures for the Lee University Piano Competition:
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Application must be postmarked by 16 April 2012.
- Application must include a copy of one of the following: birth certificate or valid state-issued ID. Document must show birth date.
- Travel to and from Lee University is the responsibility of the participant.
- Housing and meals are provided for the participants.
- No Housing is provided for parents or teachers.
- Likenesses of contestants may be used by Lee University in its promotional materials without contestants’ consent.
- Lee University and its authorized agents have sole ownership of recordings of this event without obligation to any contestant or any other agency.
- While on the Lee University campus, contestants agree to abide by its code of conduct.
- A $50 (US funds), non-refundable application fee must be included with application.
The following apply to the competition only:
- Applications must include two copies of a standard 15-20 minute audio CD of excellent recording quality that includes two contrasting solo compositions from the standard piano repertoire (no concertos) marked with initials ONLY.
- Questions about repertoire should be directed to the Competition Office. There is to be no talking or other identifying information on the CD. CDs become the property of Lee University and are not returnable.
- Contestants may repeat repertoire from the CD to live rounds.
- Contestants may not repeat repertoire between the live rounds.
- Each round of the competition requires the contestant to be prepared to play 15 minutes of music from memory. Judges may elect not to hear all repertoire in any round.
- All decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal.
- All applications will be considered through the CD round.
- Judges will disqualify themselves from voting on contestants who are their students (current or past).
- Notification of finalists (by email or telephone) will be made by May 3, 2012.
- Finalists must confirm participation (by email or telephone) by May 17, 2012. Failure to confirm will result in disqualification.
- All decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal.
Additional Information
School of Music
An institutional, fully-accredited member of the National Association of
Schools of Music, the Lee University School of Music offers programs of study
designed to prepare men and women for the performance and/or instruction of the
musical arts. It offers following degrees: Bachelor of Music in Performance,
Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Arts—Church Music Emphasis, and Bachelor
of Science in Music—Music Business Emphasis. Some 200 majors are currently
studying in two modern facilities that include Squires Recital Hall, a music
technology lab, music resource center, and well-equipped classroom. Piano
majors have access to a Steinway-B for practicing.
