• What is it?

    LiveSafe is a mobile app that Lee University is providing all students, faculty, and staff to download for free. With this app, you will be able to use your smart phone as a personal security device that will empower you to take charge of your own safety as well as look out for those around you. LiveSafe can be used for varying safety situations from contacting Campus Security or 9-1-1 during an emergency to allowing fellow friends or family members to “watch” as you travel from one location to another.

    Report Suspicious Activity: See something suspicious on campus? Share information, tips, and safety concerns by submitting a report directly to Campus Security. This feature includes options for attaching text, picture, video, or audio to your report as well as engaging in a live chat with an emergency official. You can choose to either remain anonymous or send your user information and location, which allows for faster response times.

    Report Incident: Has an incident already happened? Submit a report for non-emergency situations such as a disturbance, lockout, hate/bias, and more. Quickly notify Campus Security of an incident that has occurred or is currently ongoing. 

    Emergency Options: In an emergency and need immediate help? Push buttons on the Emergency Options page allow you to notify either 911 or Campus Security of your situation and initiate location tracking so that emergency responders may pinpoint where you are and arrive on the scene more quickly. An option for sending discrete messages with crucial details to Campus Security is also included for cases where a phone call is not feasible. 

    Resources: Looking for more resources? LiveSafe provides you with easy-to-find information such as emergency procedures, shuttle pickup locations, health and wellness resources, and more. 

    SafeWalk: Feeling uneasy about walking home from your friend’s dorm after dark? With SafeWalk, you can invite your friends or family to “virtually escort” you. Choose a contact from your phone to temporarily receive your location and follow you on a real-time map until you reach your destination. If you do not arrive at your intended location, they can contact you to ensure you are safe or use your last-known location to contact emergency personnel. 

    Safety Map: Want to know exactly where you are? Easily find your location on the Safety Map and receive directions to campus buildings, visitor parking, places of safety, and more. Campus Security can also publish safety concerns directly to the Safety Map so that you can stay aware of any possible dangers in your area.

    Steps to Download:

    1. Download the “LiveSafe” app via the Lee University website.
    2. Register with your phone number or email.
    3. Search for and select “Lee University”.
    4. Sign in with your Lee University username and password.

    *Please Note: In order to receive check-in notifications with LiveSafe, access to your location needs to be set to “Always” in your phone settings for the LiveSafe app.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    What kind of information should I report?

    Lee University students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use the LiveSafe app to communicate with Campus Security about any issues, concerns, or questions related to campus safety and security. This includes (but is not limited to) inquiring about policies and best practices for providing emotional help, reporting vandalism, notifying authorities of suspicious activity, or filing a disturbance report.

    Who receives my reports and information?

    Information submitted is monitored 24/7 by Campus Security. In case further information on any report is needed, an emergency official will follow up and live chat with you.

    What if a report I send turns out to be a mistake?

    You will not be penalized for making claims that turn out to be inaccurate. So long as the reports are not purposefully false, you are encouraged to share any relevant information. When submitting a claim, you can choose “Other” as the category if you are unsure what the report should fall under. If a claim comes in under the wrong category, Campus Security can easily relocate it to the correct section.

    Does LiveSafe replace 911?

    No. The aim of the LiveSafe app is to provide an easier and more efficient way of communicating with campus authorities in any unsafe situation. If you are in an emergency, using LiveSafe’s 911 distress button will not only contact 911 and Campus Security but also provide them with your GPS coordinates and emergency contact information, ensuring that the department responds more quickly.

    Does LiveSafe replace LeeU Alerts?

    No. LeeU Alerts is Lee University’s primary emergency notification system. LiveSafe allows LeeU Alerts to be broadcast over the LiveSafe app, providing another avenue to reach the Lee University community in any emergency situation. While LeeU Alerts provides Campus Security with the ability to notify all students, faculty, and staff of an incident, LiveSafe allows users to respond individually, notifying emergency personnel whether or not they are safe.

    How does LiveSafe Check-In work?

    Campus Security will initiate a Check-In by sending a notification via SMS text, email, and/or push notification in the LiveSafe app to all users. The notification will ask for each person to indicate if they are OK or need help. If a user is in need of assistance, Campus Security will be able to determine your location and contact you via your LiveSafe profile information. 

     Note: You must enable Push Notifications on the app in order to receive a LiveSafe check-in.

    If I download LiveSafe, can Lee University’s safety officials or law enforcement see my location whenever they want?

    No. When you submit a tip, your current location is only submitted once and is attached to that tip – tracking is not enabled. However, when you use the Emergency Options button or SafeWalk feature, your location is tracked until you disable it within the Emergency Options or SafeWalk screen.

    Why do I need to fill out a user profile after downloading LiveSafe?

    Filling out the user profile will help Campus Security contact you if additional information is needed after you submit a tip. If you use the Emergency Options button to contact Campus Security, they will have immediate access to your name and contact information. This is imperative in emergency situations if you lose connection with Campus Security or if your identity is needed because you are in distress.

    How does the anonymous feature work?

    Users can send tips using the anonymous feature if they are not comfortable with disclosing their identity. Campus Security will not be able to see who the report is coming from if this feature is activate. If Campus Security uses the Live Chat feature to obtain additional information, they will still appear as anonymous.

    Do I need to enable location services for LiveSafe for the app to work?

    Yes. In order for the location-dependent features to work (SafeWalk, tip submittal, check-in notifications, etc.), LiveSafe needs to be able to access your location. You will not be actively tracked when the app is not in use and when you are using non-location-dependent features.

    Am I required to provide any picture, video, or audio evidence?

    No. While you are encouraged to provide these objects for evidence when sending in reports, it is only advised to do so if the circumstances are safe.

    What will you do with my data?

    LiveSafe respects the privacy of individuals and law enforcement agencies. Data will only be analyzed in aggregate form once individual information is scrubbed and anonymized. Evidence information belongs solely to the law enforcement agency for which it was designated.
