Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, LEAP is a TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program designed to increase students' persistence and completion at Lee University. Our dedicated LEAP professionals and support staff meet with our students to offer coaching, mentoring, and workshops/activities each academic year. Our goal is to help students overcome academic, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.     Dr. Roy Y. Chan


    Dr. Roy Y. Chan is the Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) for LEAP at Lee University. As an advocate for diversity and inclusion, Roy is passionate about helping students identify their strengths and empowering them for lifelong success. Prior to joining the staff at Lee, Roy served as the Special Projects Coordinator in the 21st Century Scholars Program at Indiana University Bloomington, the largest non-TRIO student support services for low-income students in the United States. Roy holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy Studies from Indiana University, a M.A. in Higher Education Administration from Boston College, a M.Ed. in Comparative Education from The University of Hong Kong, and a B.A. in Criminology, Law & Society from the University of California, Irvine. During his free time, Roy enjoys hanging out in coffee shops, traveling overseas, and visiting art museums. His top 5 strengths are Developer, Intellection, Strategic, Empathy, and Futuristic.

    Dr. Angela Waltrip


    Dr. Angela Waltrip serves as the LEAP Community Coordinator and Coach at Lee University. As a Lee alumna, Dr. Waltrip has served the University in many capacities to include Residential Life & Housing, Adjunct Faculty of Theology, and Division of Adult Learning (DAL). Her education background includes a B.A in Sociology from Lee University, along with a M.Div./M.A.C.M.H.C. and a D.Min. from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary. Prior to joining LEAP, Angela worked as a probation/parole officer for the State of Tennessee before moving with her family to live and teach full-time at the European Theological Seminary in Freudenstadt, Germany. Dr. Waltrip continues to be involved in missions with her husband, Blayne and daughter, Noelle. She is very happy to serve Lee University students and return to her roots.

    Kristin Pope


    Kristin Pope has been with LEAP as the Academic Coordinator & Coach since its inception in 2015. Kristin completed her B.A. in Government at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, and a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Lee University. She is passionate about helping students figure out their direction and charting a course to get there as successfully as possible. Kristin and her husband Tom, both deeply enjoy being connected to the Lee Community and frequently can be found with students over to their home. Her top five signature strengths are Harmony, Responsibility, Connectedness, Arranger, and Individualization.

    Andrew DiPastena


    Andrew DiPastena serves as a LEAP Coach at Lee University. Prior to his role, Andrew served as an Enrollment Representative in the Division of Adult Learning (DAL) at Lee University, and previously as Coordinator of Campus Events. Upon high school graduation, Andrew enlisted in the United States Army of which later opened the door for him to complete his B.A. in Christian Studies at Lee University. Following college, Andrew went on to spend 25 years in full-time pastoral ministry to young adults in Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina before returning to his current role at Lee University. Andrew is passionate about building enduring relationships with students and helping them realize their full potential. During his free time, Andrew enjoys hanging out with his wife Marbi (his high school sweetheart,) daughter Alyssa, and son Caleb, along with family and friends.
