About the Kairos Scholars Honors Program

“Kairos” is Greek for a propitious moment for decision or action or the “right word at the right time.” Proverbs 25:11: “Like apples of gold set in silver filigree is a word spoken in season.”

The Lee University Honors Program, known as the Kairos Scholars, is a program designed to challenge, engage, and expand the educational experience of highly motivated students on the Lee University campus. Through classes and activities, students in the Kairos Scholars are invited to explore their higher education while building lasting personal relationships. The honors curriculum provides enhanced opportunity for students to interact with instructors creating a meaningful community of learners, as well as providing an opportunity for students to develop their gifts and use them to serve the campus and community around them. Courses designated as honors courses use various pedagogies, employ a variety of assessment tools and offer flexible and creative assignments.

As a freshman at any school, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. You might even have a moment of doubt about your own success as a college student. Here at Lee University, we desire to see all of our students succeed. As such, a program designed especially for highly motivated students has been created to challenge, engage, and expand their educational experience. Through classes and activities, students in the Kairos Scholars Honors Program are invited to explore the vast potential of higher education while building lasting personal relationships.

If you are chosen to be a member of the Kairos Scholars, you will be:

  • in a class of 10-25 other students with academic backgrounds and gifts similar to yours.
  • given the chance to form lasting bonds and friendships through many activities outside of class (i.e. concerts, theatre, special field trips, conferences, social events, summer study abroad, etc.).
  • involved in a stimulating, customized academic program worth up to 30 credit hours.
  • taught by instructors hand-picked to provide an engaging learning environment.

Due to the nature of this program and the high number of responses, there are eligibility requirements to be involved in the Kairos Scholars. All those who are Presidential Scholars (scores of 27-30 on the Enhanced ACT or 1230-1390 on the SAT) or Centennial Scholars (scores of 31-36 on the Enhanced ACT or 1400-1600 on the SAT) may apply.

If you meet the above listed requirements and are interested in being chosen to participate in the Kairos Scholars, please fill out the application located at the link on this page. You are asked to fill out a basic assessment sheet and to submit some of your recent work as well as an essay that gives us an indication of your communication skills. This is your opportunity to express who you are as well as why you would make a good Kairos Scholar. Academic and test scores are important, but the committee will be looking for evidence of servant-leadership as well. Please be aware, the deadline for applications is May 15. Inclusion in the Kairos Scholars is normally for fall semester enrollment. Spring semester applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

We look forward to hearing from you!
