Individually Arranged Studies - Step by Step Process
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
STEP 1: SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE ANTH 200: GLOBAL
PERSPECTIVES SEMINAR
- ANTH 200 is the prerequisite for GNST 250:
Individually Arranged Cross-Cultural Study.
- ANTH 200 equips students to critically analyze
their own as well as other cultures while
facilitating discussion and reflection of different
cultural perspectives in preparation for the
cross-cultural experience.
- Students may not receive cross-cultural
experience credit without first successfully
completing the ANTH 200 Seminar.
STEP 2: REGISTER FOR GNST 250
- Students should add GNST 250 to their class
schedule for the semester during which they plan to
conduct their Individually Arranged Cross-Cultural
Study.
STEP 3: ATTEND THE MANDATORY GNST 250 CLASS
MEETING
- Sttend the class meeting held at the beginning
of the spring and fall semesters.
- The class for summer session will be held in
April prior to the students leaving for summer
break and the class for Christmas session will be
held in November prior to the students
leaving for winter break.
- Specific instructions will be given as to how
the Individually Arranged Study will be evaluated
and graded.
STEP 4: SUBMIT APPLICATION TO CONDUCT AN
INDIVIDUALLY ARRANGED STUDY
- Submit the application to the Global
Perspectives Office by the deadline as specified in
the academic catalog. The application will then be
submitted to the Global Perspectives Committee who
deliberate and vote on whether or not the intended
experience will be approved. Applications will
not be accepted after the deadline has passed!
- Students will be notified by the course
instructor via email of the Global Perspectives
Committee’s decision.
STEP 5: COMPLETE A CROSS-CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
- To receive academic credit, students must
complete a minimum of 45 hours interaction (no less
than 7 days) with the intended target culture.
STEP 6: SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS
- Students are responsible for completing a daily
reflection journal, 5 case studies with members of
the target culture, and a final reflection summary
of their experience.
- In order to receive course credit, a student
must show competency in his/her ability to reflect
on another culture and initiative in interacting
with people of that culture.
