Fulfilling the
Cross-Cultural Requirement
Students are
required to fulfill a minimum of 2 Global Perspectives
credit hours in order to graduate:
ANTH 200:
Global Perspectives Seminar
GNST 250, 251, 252, or 253: Cross-Cultural
Experience
All students
must take the 5-week GNST 200: Global Perspectives
Seminar, even international students, as the
prerequisite and pre-departure orientation for the
cross-cultural experience.
GNST 250, 251, 252, or 253 is the actual experience
component of the Global Perspectives Program. This is
not a class which meets throughout the semester or
summer term but the credit students receive for their
actual experience.
Credit hours vary depending on the intensity of the
cross-cultural experience: GNST 251 (1 credit-hour) is
given for domestic or shorter international
cross-cultural experiences; GNST 252 (2 credit-hours) is
given for extended international experiences; and GNST
253 (3 credit-hours) is given for semester or year-long
international experiences. GNST 250 is the Individually
Arranged Cross-Cultural Study where students research
and design an experience unique to their preferences and
personality.
Students have three options for fulfilling the
cross-cultural requirement:
1. Participate in one of Lee’s many
global perspectives trips
2. Apply to conduct an
Individually Arranged Cross-Cultural Study
3. Qualify for exemption from
cross-cultural experience requirement
