Cross-Cultural/Service-Learning Credit Only
Students will now be permitted to participate in global perspectives trips and seek only the cross-cultural credit.
In order to do so, they must complete the following:
- Successfully complete the pre-requisite ANTH 200, the Global Perspectives Seminar
- Register for GNST 250 for the semester during which the trip will occur
- Plan to have their participation in the trip be an individually arranged cross-cultural study and submit an application to conduct an individually arranged study to the Global Perspectives Office by the established deadlines in the Academic Catalog. The Global Perspectives Director can grant approval of the application if the trip has already been approved by the Global Perspectives Committee.
- Once registered, log in to Angel for GNST 250 course instruction.
- Pay full trip costs (not the total “trip price” which includes full tuition). This will not affect the Business Office so far as who may or may not get the tuition rollback because these students will only be paying a “deposit” to go on the trip.
- Purchase travel insurance through the Business Office
- Receive Health Clinic travel clearance along with other trip participants
- Complete assignments/reports as required by GNST 250 course syllabus to the Global Perspectives Office by the assignment due date.
This option will typically be restricted to only those students who have already completed a Lee sponsored trip for academic credit. However, this can be negotiated on an individual basis.
This option will only be available at the discretion and recommendation of the Trip Director, via email, who will decide whether or not to allow participation in their respective trip without taking classes and being a part of the cohesive group.
Students will now be permitted to participate in faculty-led global perspectives trips, seeking only the service-learning credit. There are two ways students can receive Service-Learning credit though faculty-led global perspectives trips: (1) Service-Enhanced Courses, and (2) Individually Arranged Projects.
Service-Enhanced Courses
This option will be automatically be available to students if a course they are enrolled in as part of the trip is service-enhanced.
Individually Arranged Projects
Students who are not enrolled in a service-enhanced course may still receive credit by completing the Volunteer Project Form for Individually Arranged Projects. This option will only be available for students who have the respective Trip Director’s approval pre-departure. Only through a Trip Director’s recommendation, via email, will a student be allowed to participate in an individually arranged service-learning project.
In order for the Volunteer Project Form for Individually Arranged Projects to be accepted, students will need to submit the completed form which includes the signature of the faculty/staff representative for the trip. Students will also need to provide the appropriate reflections in order to receive academic credit, unless the faculty member completed the reflection component on the trip. This must be noted by the faculty member with his/her signature.
