Contestants must meet the following
criteria:
- High school
graduation date that is no earlier than the spring of 2008.
- Qualified to
enter the 9th grade in high school (or its equivalent) by September
2008.
- Previous college
credit limited to dual enrollment, early admission, and the like.
- United States
Citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or possessor of a
valid visa.
Rules and procedures
for the Lee University Piano Competition:
- Incomplete
applications will not be accepted.

Application
must be postmarked by 15 April 2008.

Application
must include a copy of one of the following: birth certificate or
valid state-issued ID. Document must show birth date.
- Applications
must include two copies of a standard 15-20 minute audio CD of
excellent recording quality that includes two contrasting solo
compositions from the standard piano repertoire (no concertos)
marked with initials ONLY. Questions about repertoire should be
directed to the Competition Office. There is to be no talking or
other identifying information on the CD. CDs become the property of
Lee University and are not returnable.
- Contestants
may repeat repertoire from the CD to live rounds.
- Contestants
may not repeat repertoire between the live rounds.
- Each round of
the competition requires 15 minutes of music played from memory.
- A $50 (US
funds), non-refundable application fee must be included with
application.
- All applications
will be considered through the CD round.
- A panel of
judges will select a maximum of twenty (20) competitors (and up to 5
alternates) to participate in the live competition at Lee
University.
- Judges will
disqualify themselves from voting on contestants who are their
students (current or past).
- Notification of
finalists (by email or telephone) will be made by 1 May 2008.
- Finalists must
confirm participation (by email or telephone) by 15 May 2008.
Failure to confirm will result in disqualification.
- If accepted into
the live rounds, contestant is responsible for travel to and from
Lee University.
- Housing and
meals for contestants accepted into the live rounds will be provided
on the Lee University campus.
- Prize winners
agree to participate in a future recital at Lee University if
requested.
Contestants must also agree to the
following:
- All decisions of
the judges are final and not subject to appeal.
- Likenesses of
contestants may be used by Lee University in its promotional
materials without contestants’ consent.
- Lee University
and its authorized agents have sole ownership of recordings of this
event without obligation to any contestant or any other agency.
- While on the Lee
University campus, contestants agree to abide by its code of
conduct.
