Charlotte Center Confidentiality of Student Records
  
In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, Lee University students have the right to review, inspect, and the challenge the accuracy of information kept in a cumulative file by the university unless the student waives the right. The law further ensures that records cannot be released except in emergency situations without the written consent of the student other than the following:
  1. to other school officials, including faculty within the education institution who have legitimate educational interest;
  2. to officials of other schools in which the student intends to enroll, upon condition that the student be notified of the transfer, receives a copy of the record if desired, and has an opportunity for a hearing to challenge the content of the record;
  3. to authorized representatives of (1) the Comptroller General of the United States, (2) the Secretary, (3) an administrative head of an educational agency, or (4) state educational authorities;
  4. in connection with a student's application for, and receipt of, financial; and
  5. in cases of information classified as "directory information."

The following categories of information have been designated by the university as directory information: name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educational institution attended by the student. If the student does not wish such information released without consent, the student should notify the Office of Student Records prior to the first day of classes each semester.
