Immigration Requirement

Once you are admitted to the U.S. in F-1 , it is your responsibility to meet certain obligations in order to maintain your student status. When you signed your Form I-20 and used this document to enter the United States in F-1 status, you certified that you understood the terms and conditions concerning your admission and stay in the United States. It is imperative that you review the "Instructions to Students" of your Form I-20 . Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the loss of your student status and subject you to deportation. You should consult your Designated School Official (DSO) if you have any questions regarding your nonimmigrant student status or the terms of your admission. You should consult your DSO before taking any action that could result in a violation of your nonimmigrant student status. Although it is your responsibility to maintain your immigration status, your DSO is here to assist you. The certified Designated School Officials at Lee University are Phil Cook and Renee Williams.

To apply for a program extension:
Within 30 days before the expected completion date on your Form I-20, bring a letter from your academic advisor including the reason for which an extension is necessary and the anticipated date of completion.

To complete a transfer to Lee University (students in F-1 status): Within 15 days of beginning attendance at Lee University, bring your Form I-20 (you need to complete #11 on this form) and Form I-20 from your previous school to Admissions.

To continue in a different educational level at Lee University (students in F-1 status): Apply for admission to a graduate program.  When you are admitted and provide proof of financial support, an I-20 can be issued for the masters’ level.

To obtain a certification of employment eligibility for on-campus employment: Bring a letter from your prospective on-campus employer, Social Security number, academic transcript and Form I-94 to the Human Resource Office in the Higginbotham Administrative Building.
