  • “Lee   University’s   Department   of   Theology   is   committed   to   developing   scholars   of   Christian   faith,   who   are   devoted   to   the   truth   of   Scripture   in   the   life   of   the   Spirit   for   the   sake   of   serving   God’s   Kingdom   in   this   world.”

The Department of Theology encompasses the disciplines of biblical, theological, and historical studies, as well as philosophy and biblical languages. Within the Bible and Theology major, students may choose one of two tracks: a Pre-Graduate Studies Emphasis which anticipates further training at the graduate level or in seminary, or a Pastoral Studies Emphasis in which some skills requisite for a pastoral ministry are offered.

Students in the Department of Theology are prepared to:

    • Demonstrate academic proficiency: Achieving solid knowledge base in the respective areas of theological study
    • Exhibit vocational and spiritual maturity: Integrating faith and learning
    • Demonstrate critical competency: Thinking, researching, speaking, and writing with critical engagement skills
    • Show cultural sensitivity: Understanding and engaging diverse contexts and perspectives
    • Practice service responsibility: Serving God and others in the church, community, and world

Department of Theology graduates move on to:

    • Graduate programs in top-ranked seminaries and universities
    • Teaching careers in college and university settings
    • Pastoral work in church and para-church ministries
    • Educational vocations in missions contexts throughout the world
    • Never-ending pursuit of biblical and theological truth
    • A life-long calling to bring the light of sacred truth to the needs and questions of our post-modern world

The Department of Theology also serves the University as a whole by providing an 18-hour minor to all university graduates. The goal of this Religion Core is to enable all graduates to be conversant in the Christian faith and to begin integrating faith into all aspects of their lives and vocations.
