Program Admission

A student seeking admission as a music major should have some background in reading and performing music, as well as a desire and commitment to develop these skills within the framework and guidance of the music major curriculum as it exists at Lee University.
To gain admission as a music major, a student must first meet the general entrance requirements for acceptance to Lee University.  Once this process has been completed, the student can apply for acceptance as a music major. Any student interested in auditioning must contact the School of Music Administrative Offices in order to arrange an audition.

Requirements for acceptance to the School of Music:

  1. The completion of a music theory placement exam.
  2. An audition in the primary area of study (instrumental, keyboard, or voice).
  3. The completion of a Piano Placement Exam.
  4. The demonstration of skills that can be developed to enable the student to successfully serve as a performer, music educator, music minister, or music entrepreneur.  Any deficiencies must be completed, without credit, during the first year.

Based on an audition in the chosen area, a student may:

  • be given full acceptance into the music major curriculum
  • be accepted on a conditional status for a period of one semester at which time they must re-audition during the semester jury exam
  • be advised to pursue another area of study or possibly minor in music.

Notification of acceptance status will be given by letter two weeks after the audition.
