    Mrs. Weiyi Cai Yu was born in Guangzhou, China and started violin training when she was 6. In 1985, Yu was admitted to the San Francisco Conservatory in the U.S., as a scholarship student. A year later, she won a full scholarship to study at Eastman School of Music in New York, where she completed her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees under Professor Peter Salaff, a member of the world acclaimed Cleveland String Quartet. She has participated in the master classes and performances with many great performers such as Joseph Gingold, Itzhak Perlman, Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Nadja Sonnenberg, Pavorotti, Emmanual Ax, Andrew Watts, Joshua Bell, Midori Goto, Sarah Chang, and Yo Yo Ma. Yu has also been an active chamber musician and a successful violin educator. Yu has been a member of the Charlotte Symphony since 1991 and violin faculty at Charlotte School of the Arts since 1992. Other engagements have included teaching at Wingate University. In 2004, Yu joined the faculty of Lee University, where she teaches violin.
